GENERAL VOLUNTEERING

Volunteering at Bartlett House is very easy. Just call 304-292-0101 or come in and talk to our Volunteer Coordinator Paul McSwegin. The Volunteer Coordinator is at the shelter from 9am-5pm. There is always something that needs done. If you feel you have a unique idea for your volunteer time, we would love to hear it.

FUND RAISING

Like other non-profits, the Bartlett House programs are funded through grants and the generous support of the community. If you have an idea for a fundraiser or would like to help with a fund raising effort, we welcome your participation. In the past we have had groups do bake sales, car washes, bucket brigades, concerts, dinners, cash bashes, silent auctions, running races, organizational collections and many other fund raising endeavors. These efforts are often greatly rewarding and fun for the participants. This is a great way for student organizations, civic groups, church organizations, and businesses to employ the power of team work.

General Volunteering

Volunteering at Bartlett House is very easy. Just call, email or come in and talk to our Volunteer Coordinator, Paul McSwegin and he will take care of you. The Resource Manager is at the shelter from 9am-5pm. There is always something that needs done. If you feel you have a unique idea for your volunteer time, we would love to hear it. Please find below a list of suggested ways you can help us help the homeless.

Administrative Support

This job entails answering phones, reception, filing, data entry, hand writing notes, and other general office tasks.

Repair and Maintenance

Knowledge of carpentry, painting, electrical repair or plumbing would be desired for this volunteer position.

Cleaning

It is our desire to provide a clean and healthy environment for our clients. Sweeping, mopping, wiping down walls, dusting and other cleaning duties would fall into this category.

Laundry

Bartlett House generates three to five loads of laundry per day (mostly bedding & towels). Having volunteers to complete this task is a great help!

Large or Bulk Item Transport

There are occasions when we need someone with a truck to transport large or bulk items such as appliances, furniture or food donations. We would like to compile a list of volunteers who would be willing to be “on call” to provide such transportation service when needed.

Oct 7 Donations and Volunteers NeededPosted by Doris Pirlo

Bartlett House is able to provide such quality homeless services die to the generosity of resources and time that is given by the local community. From those who donate money and goods, to those who serve meals and share their hobbies and talents. For the homeless, a shelter can be as little as a place to sleep out of the rain or as much as a step toward self-sufficiency.

Volunteer opportunities are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. For more information on how to donate time and/or money, call the Volunteer Coordinator at 304-292-0101.

Oct 5 Holiday Season is Coming!Posted by Doris Pirlo

Holiday Helpers are needed!

The holidays are special times at the Bartlett House. We feel it is important for our clients to experience the joys of the holiday season in spite of their current situation. To that end, we go all out to ensure that a good time is had by all. On Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter the doors of the Bartlett House open to the entire community and anyone who wants to enjoy a traditional holiday meal is welcome to join us. Generous donors provide much of the holiday fare and dozens of volunteers work to prepare and serve a banquet to rival any table, anywhere. In addition, on Christmas, concerned citizens participate in our “Adopt a Family” program to bring Christmas gifts to children and families who would otherwise be without. Labor Day, July 4th and Memorial Day are celebrated with cookouts for Bartlett House clients only. However, volunteers are still welcome to help out during these days. We are so appreciative to the community and its response each holiday season. The Morgantown area is certainly a community that cares!
