GENERAL VOLUNTEERING
Volunteering at Bartlett House is very easy. Just call 304-292-0101 or come in and talk to our Resource Manager John Lewis. The Volunteer Coordinator is at the shelter from 9am-5pm. There is always something that needs done. If you feel you have a unique idea for your volunteer time, we would love to hear it.
FUND RAISING
Like other non-profits, the Bartlett House programs are funded through grants and the generous support of the community. If you have an idea for a fundraiser or would like to help with a fund raising effort, we welcome your participation. Please contact Doris Pirlo at 304-292-0101 or email to dpirlo@bartletthouse.org In the past we have had groups do bake sales, car washes, bucket brigades, concerts, dinners, cash bashes, silent auctions, running races, organizational collections and many other fund raising endeavors. These efforts are often greatly rewarding and fun for the participants. This is a great way for student organizations, civic groups, church organizations, and businesses to employ the power of team work.

Laundry
Bartlett House generates three to five loads of laundry per day (mostly bedding & towels). Having volunteers to complete this task is a great help!
I don't know what your destiny will be, but one thing I know: the only ones among you who will be really happy are those who have sought and found how to serve."
-Albert Schweitzer

Storage closets at the Bartlett House are piled high thanks to a recent contribution made by students who participated in Campus Cup at WVU. As a result of the competition, more than 2,200 items were donated.
Although, Associate Director of Residential Education, Eric O’Hara, helped plan the event, he gives full credit to the students for making it possible. He is always amazed by their efforts.
He said, “I’m always shocked each year at the number of items we get, the time people take to collect donations and then go to the store to try to find the most bang for their buck .”
Students living in residential halls at WVU combined their efforts in a healthy dose of competition during the campus cup. Campus Cup challenged the halls to donate items such as oven mitts, deodorant, soap, napkins, and diapers to benefit families in need at the Bartlett House. Each hall was competing to raise the most items donated, and all who were involved won.
According to O’Hara, the Bartlett house is more than deserving of the donation.
He said, “Bartlett House obviously does a lot of great work for the community.”
College students living in the dorm donated more than 2,200 items in 2011 and have donated thousands more in the past few years. Employees at the Bartlett House had to make multiple trips to campus to pick up the donations from Brooke Tower and Stalnaker Hall. John Lewis, an employee at the Bartlett House, said that the donations were extremely generous and helpful in allowing Bartlett House to continue its daily meal program. Bartlett House serves more than 40,00 meals to homeless children and adults each year, meeting their basic nutritional needs and keeping children healthy. Donations such as those from Campus Cup make the meal program possible.
On behalf of the Bartlett House residents and staff, a big THANK YOU to Campus Cup participants!

John Lewis, Resource Manager
Bartlett House is able to provide such quality homeless services due to the generosity of resources and time that is given by the local community. From those who donate money and goods, to those who serve meals and share their hobbies and talents. For the homeless, a shelter can be as little as a place to sleep out of the rain or as much as a step toward self-sufficiency.
Volunteer opportunities are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. For more information on how to donate time and/or money, call the Volunteer Coordinator at 304-292-0101 or email him at jlewis@bartletthouse.org.
